Overview
The U. S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) initiated a program to mitigate environmental impacts resulting from historic dredging and navigation improvements at coastal inlets. Water & Air completed a biological inventory to assist a coastal engineering firm in these efforts at Ponce De Leon Inlet and the nearby Intracoastal Waterway. The 3000-acre study area near the inlet was inventoried for biological resources.
Task Summary

- Performed Florida Land Use Cover and Forms Classification System (FLUCFCS) mapping.
- Identified submerged aquatic vegetation and oyster resources.
- Surveyed endangered and threatened species.
Results
The ecological data gathered were instrumental in allowing our client to complete the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service Coordination Act Report (CAR) portion of the feasibility study to determine ecologically viable mitigation options in the region.
