Overview
Water & Air scientists teamed with a landscape architecture firm in to create a Park Master Plan and Ecological Management Plan for the Egans Creek Greenway within the City of Fernandina Beach. The park is a popular bird watching location for residents and visitors.
Task Summary
- Mapped and identified natural vegetation communities and land uses within the Egans Creek Greenway.
- Identified the location and extent of exotic plant species that threaten the biological integrity of the greenway and developed management strategies for their control.
- Completed a biological field survey that provided the basis for development of an environmental land management plan.
- Documented restoration opportunities, scenic viewsheds, unique points of interest, and potential trail routes.
Results
Water & Air professionals worked closely with the landscape architects to identify unique features and scenic routes to be incorporated into the trail system. The on-site experience that Water & Air gained during the inventory phase enabled the project architects to develop a design that was aesthetically pleasing and ecologically sound.
