Indoor Air Evaluation of a Veterans Hospital

Indoor Air 02 Indoor Air 01
Overview

Water & Air performed a series of projects for the Department of Veterans Affairs hospital complex including indoor air evaluations of buildings on the campus. Personnel in the director’s office experienced possible allergic reactions to environmental conditions in the building. Water & Air scientists were asked to quickly assess mold levels in their building to determine if immediate corrective actions were needed.

Task Summary

  • Conducted fieldwork to adequately determine air quality.
  • Compared levels of indoor air allergens with outside air.
  • Assessed likely source of symptoms experienced.

Results

Project results demonstrated that mold was not a problem in this case. It provided an example of indoor air quality assessment and monitoring as it relates to health and safety issues concerning staff and patients within a federal facility. Monitoring and assessment involved in depth knowledge of Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning (HVAC) and indoor air handling systems as well as identifying potential sources of aeroallergens such as mold spores, pollen, insects and dander. Water & Air provided information compatible with the facility’s Environmental Management System and illustrate our ability to quickly respond to our client’s needs.
